Pours very dark brown (SRM 33-36). A huge, creamy beige head settles at one and a half inches for a while. A reddish glow is apparent when bright light is applied from behind, revealing streams of fine carbonation that ride up the wall of a Pretentious Glass Company Amber Lager pint glass.
The aroma opens with chocolate malt and a pleasantly mild dark roast. Lactose seems to also be present.
This is definitely on the sweeter side for Milk Stouts. This said, the sweetness is far from pastry stout territory. Chocolate and coffee are accents to the rich roasted malt. There is no sensation of hops from entry to the end of the long, mild, finish.
This has a full body and texture similar to rough wool. The alcohol, while a light touch, is still more than anticipated. There is plenty of carbonation, yet it makes a soft impact on the tongue.
This is enjoyable on a cool and gloomy autumn afternoon. The flavors are full and bright.
