Appearance: Clear black, fluffy khaki head with moderate retention.

Aroma: Toast, caramel, toffee and coffee.

Flavor: Toast, caramel, roasted malt, toffee and coffee. Moderate to high sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Mouth coating. Virtually no carbonation. Short to moderate finish.

Overall: Malt forward, aromatic and complex. Layered roasted malt flavors with coffee. High alcohol content but very well hidden. This was a very good, early coffee stout offering from the brewery. Not sure why they stopped making it because it was a crowd pleaser for the coffee stout loving crowd.

12 oz can at the 2019 Spring Suwannee Reunion.
Semi-durable beige head over a dark brown body.
Well balanced, coffee stout with more chocolate in the aroma than the flavor, but less coffee.
Medium carbonation seems a bit more aggressive than ideal.

12oz can from Charlie’s II (Acworth, GA). 13.49/ 6 pack. Canned 12/1/18. Served in a goblet. Enjoyed 12/8/18.

Pours black the a tall cap of khaki froth. The head fades to a wide but shallow central island, a narrow perimeter and some copious lacing, particularly where the initial bubbles rested.

Smells of heavily kilned malt, caramel and coffee with hints of chocolate and brown sugar.

The coffee is more forward in the flavor. Creamed cold brew, caramel, milk chocolate, roasty malt and burnt sugar.

Creamy, medium full feel with gentle carbonation. The lingering finish calls to mind heavily creamed caramel macchiato.

Wild Leap is continuing their prolific streak with another tasty stout. Solid Ground is a bit sweeter take on the ever popular coffee stout. These guys are doing consistently great work across multiple styles. Their stuff is worth trying if you haven’t already.
