Early in, this is looking good. It seems like this West Coast IPA didn't cheat by shortchanging the malt. The contents of a pint can emptied nicely into a clear glass liter mug. There was a reasonable white head produced atop a solid amber colored beer which also brings a light copper hue. It's about as translucent as an IPA could be. The aroma has some grapefruit and some pine, so this should fit the category. It does bite, especially up front, with some citrus and pine notes. Then, there's an interesting and pleasurable transition to include some whole grain breadiness, before it finishes with a return to a grapefruity and piney finish. The hop bite is moderate, not modest, but reasonable enough to allow some of the taste of malt to contribute. Likely, it's that malt inclusion that gives this a smooth and supple body to carry a tasty and well-rounded WCIPA. Yet, there's very little glass lacing. It's fairly poundable and with a reasonable 6.6% ABV, barely noticed, it shouldn't be a problem to reach for a couple more.
