650ml bomber into tulip 12/9/17

Tiny particles suspended in a golden copper body, some of the slowest bubbles I've seen feeding a short lived finger of loose foam that sticks all over the glass. Peach Iced Tea powder is hard to shake once I picked it up but it works, orange marmalade, earthy notes, ju jubes, soft caramel, well balanced with lots of hops but heaps of bready malt. Has body and creams up, gritty in the mouth, some pine lingering with lemon rind. Bottled a week ago and has everything I really want in a pale ale and its brewed in town? Yet another local brewery I need to keep an eye on......

20oz pint (no way!) at Arcadia Bar - my first time here, after much familiarity on local beer Twitter feeds.

This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber colour, with one skinny finger of wispy and weakly creamy bone-white head, which leaves some decent pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as things quickly subside.

It smells of grainy and bready caramel malt, a tinge of biscuity toffee, mild hard water flinty notes, and some peppy leafy, weedy, and slightly perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and crackery pale malt, a lesser caramel sweetness, muddled and bitter domestic citrus rind, wet stone paths after the thunderstorm, and more acrid leafy, herbal, and lightly tipsy verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its zesty frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, just a hint of hop acridity taking things down a notch or so here. It finishes trending dry, the sharp floral warming essences keeping the party a lingering concern.

Overall, this is a pleasant first contact for me with yet another new Calgary brewery. Dubbed an XPA (which always meant a compromise between pale ale and IPA to me), there certainly is a bit extra going on here, in both flavour and booze. And thanks, Jakob, for sacrificing the health of your ride to get these brews up to Capitol City before anybody else!

Found a little surprise at J Webb Wine Merchants at the Calgary's Farmers Market location.

Appearance - Pours a foggy orange amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - bready malts, citrus, leafy, and earthy hops, lemon, and caramel.

Taste - Bready malts followed by a sharp bitterness from the citrus, leafy, and earthy hops. The lemon and caramel finish the brew off.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes with a lingering bitterness from the hops.

Overall - An APA that has a massive hop presence in the taste. The aromas and mouthfeel could use some minor improvements but all in all, a welcome start for a new brewery in Cowtown.
