8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square. Thought we might see bombers of this one up here, but I guess not.
This beer appears a mostly clear, medium golden amber colour, with one finger of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy eggshell white head, which leaves some decent pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, some indistinct tropical fruitiness, a damp minerality, faint citrus rind notes, and more leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a bit of simple syrup sweetness, still muddled exotic fruity esters, some stoney flintiness, candied oranges, and additional earthy, weedy, and resinous piney hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly active in its swirling and twirling frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and essentially smooth, as nothing really causes any manner of trouble here. It finishes off-dry, just, as the malt falters, and the hops keep on keepin' on.
Overall - this is a bit of a departure for this brewery in terms of their predilection for all things East Coast. That said, it's pretty good, nicely balanced, and easy to put back on this sunny Canada Day afternoon.
