A- Pours an orange Pekoe tea color with cherry red hues around the rim. The head is decent looking, being a full finger in thickness and shows excellent retention, eventually settling down to a frothy foam layer over top the liquid....it is tan in color. Lacing shows on the positive side of modest, with sticky clumps clinging to the inside of the glass in artistic fashion.
S- Cherry cola aromas initially, with hints of dark chocolate, burnt and heavily toasted malt sweetness, fresh bing cherry, root beer spice (licorice, sarsaparilla), black coffee and a finish that shows the hop profile quite well. Overall a clean refreshing style of porter on the nose.
T- Lots of Earthy dryness upfront, with background hints of birchbark, cherry stems, black coffee, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, bittering black malts, with chocolate and perhaps caramel malt sweetness to help balance things out. Subtle hints of creamy sweetness from the lactose, some molasses and just the right touch of fresh cherries.
M/O- Medium mouthfeel, leaning ever so slightly towards the light side of things, carbonation that is somewhat zingy and other than an initial alcoholic jolt, the booze is well hidden. There is a certain chocolate cherry richness that gives me an idea that this is in fact inspired by Black Forest cake.....which I think this would certainly pair well with. Decent product and would have again!

Black Forest Porter brewed with BC cherries.
Appearance - Pours a root beer reddish brown with two fingers of foamy tan head.
Smell - roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, earthy and leafy hops, cherries, coffee bean, and earthy yeast.
Taste - roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, cherries, and coffee bean upfront. The earthy and leafy hops come through next. The earthy yeast finishes off the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes silky smooth with the roasted malts, cocoa, coffee bean, and cherry lingering.
Overall - A solid example of an American Porter that is trying to re-create the black forest cake in dessert form. This one does a good job. I wish the cherries were a little more pronounced but still a flavourful brew.
