A 330ml can with a BB of May 2018. Purchased a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. This young brewery claims to be the UK's only wheat brewery, and this beer is presumably one of their standards.
A: Poured into a tulip. Can-conditioned. A deep, hazy amber hue with fine suspended sediment and moderate carbonation. Produces a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer and slowly disappearing. Not quite up to Bavarian standards!
S: Aroma of fruity hefeweizen yeast with hints of banana, spice, earthiness, a touch of marzipan, grainy wheat, bread and faint stewed leaves/husks. Pretty good - not quite on a par with the classic German hefes but captures the character.
T: Tastes of fruity yeast with notes of earthiness, banana, subtle spice, grainy wheat, mild bread and stewed leaves. A touch of harsh cardboard in the background. Slightly sweet, with little bitterness to speak of.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and decent body for the style. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of fruity, earthy yeast, mild banana, wheat and acrid stewed leaves.
O: A decent stab at a hefeweizen, though doesn't quite live up to the standards set by Germany. Subpar looks - that head retention needs work. The aroma and flavour are alright with some fruity yeast action but a slight harshness in the background detracts from the character. Body is OK. Drinkable but not outstanding. Worth sampling if only for novelty.
