Canned 1/31/20
Pours a med fizzy foamy 1/2 finger head with med retention, a bit of lacing, super hazy cloudy med orange color
Nose is intense, tons of tropical fruit, pineapple, generic tropical and a little citrusy, mai tai like with a little perfumey alcohol, a bit of sweet malt
Taste brings some sweet malt out front, fair malty flavor with a little candy and some grainy malt, then more tropical fruit juice, loads of pineapple, generic tropical, a little citrus, lemony notes, a little grassy spicy hop as well with light bitterness, light perfumey alcohol with a little pithy, drier finish but a bit sticky, spicy grassy hops with med bitterness, some pineapple, grapefruit zest
Mouth is med to fuller bod, thicker almost syrupy like, med-higher foamy carb, light warming alcohol
Overall pretty nice, good hop presence, alcohol was OK, malts were decent, good balance, wish the bitterness was a bit higher

One of the most hoppy beers I’ve tasted in a while. Rivals Stone taproom beers. Resinous, pine, unusual fruit, and an overwhelming spicy finish.

Excellent New England IPA - Hazy and hoppy. River Styx does a great job with balance on their IPAs. There is a subtle sweetness to balance out all the hops.

Drank from a 16 fl oz (1 pint) can purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA

Served in a tulip
Like the can art, the appearance of the beer itself was absolutely terrible. The liquid poured a murky, swamp water brown and was topped by a thin, fizzy white film that quickly dissolved. No lacing or head retention whatsoever.
Fortunately, the aroma was much better. Strawberry notes came through big time. Really fresh and sweet. Loads of ripe peach too. This reminded me a bit of peach pie. Mango notes were also apparent. Some melon was detectable as well. Cantaloupe came to mind.
The flavor profile was also terrific but not quite as exciting as the nose. Peach and mango notes were present again, but they played a much smaller role here. Citrus kicked in next. White grapefruit was most prominent and really took over over as the beer moved along the palate. Tangy clementine notes appeared in the center. More grapefruit and grapefruit peel on the back end and the finish. A moderate amount of pithy bitterness lingered after the swallow. As the beer sat, the peach notes intensified.
Nice frothy, fluffy mouthfeel. Surprisingly light on the palate for the style. The liquid contained a super fine, frothy, tongue blanketing effervescence. Impressive.
Triple IPAs have a tendency to be overly sweet and syrupy, but this one was shockingly well balanced. Aside from the fact that this may have been one of the ugliest looking beers I have ever seen, its other attributes were pretty amazing. I look forward to trying more offerings by River Styx and hopefully visiting their brewpub someday.

Can taste the 10%. Good beer, a bit boozy though.
