Enjoyed on national Reese's peanut butter cup day.
16oz can acclimated to 50°F and poured properly into a snifter.
Pours jet black with no visible hints around the edges, looks thick. Has a 1 finger slightly dark tan lacy head.
Initial aroma is heavy woodsmoke with a hint of black licorice, almost a peat smell. Returning to it I'm surprised at how heavy the woodsmoke smell dominates. Agitating brings out a hint of specifically char/ash, and a hint of slightly dark chocolate, and also allows me to detect the alcohol smell. This is a truly wonderful smelling beer.
Initial taste is sweetness, followed by alcohol, followed by sweet chocolate, followed by a hint of black licorice, followed by a smooth sensation in the aftertaste. One of the sweetest beers I've ever tasted. In the middle of the second sip I notice a lactose like taste, and a char like taste in the end. Later in the peanut butter becomes noticeable, it's perhaps a little more of a suggestion than the chocolate and imparts a bitterness. Noteworthy is that the huge 12% alcohol is almost entirely hidden, only noticed in the inhale before the sip.
Mouthfeel is like liquid velvet, extremely smooth. Relatively thick and very syrupy, it almost resists swallowing. After agitating I can see it cling to the glass and take it's time sliding back down, it's viscous and sugary. The carbonation does disappear quickly I must say, leaving one with a nectar like motor oil, still, fantastic.
I will 100% buy this again repeatedly as well as recommend. It's tremendous.

Another amazing stout from River Styx Brewing. Notes of Chocolate and cream. Booze is well hidden. Thick dark color like motor oil. Easy drinking for such a high alcohol content.

Pours one shade shy of black with a mocha-colored head that quickly disperses towards the edges into a tight band. Nice nose - chocolate, roast and notes of peanut butter. Taste follows nose; however, the peanut butter pops more. There's also notes of artificial sweetener in the middle and char at the finish. Mouthfeel is light for the style; however, the texture has a nice creaminess to it. Carbonation is almost still. Overall, a really nice non-BA adjunct stout.
