Allowed to acclimate to room temperature for 7-8 minutes and poured into an IPA glass.

Pours hazy, the color of grapefruit juice with a very little bit of orange, nice color. Has a 2.5 finger very slightly off white head that dissipates relatively quickly.

Initial aroma is grapefruit and orange, somewhere between juice and oil. I also smell hop and pine afterwards. I get a little skunk as I normally do from this style, not a bad thing.

Initial taste is not taste but actually noticing that it's smooth, followed quickly by a taste of slightly sweet orange and some grapefruit. It's bitter but pleasant, tastes of orange juice, but also pith and rind, which hits the top and back/back sides of my tongue. I taste hops and pine as well, but they're subtle. In my opinion they're dialed in with the orange extremely well.

As I drink more the bitterness becomes stronger but remains pleasant, the hops also become more prevalent, lingering in the aftertaste. Additionally I started to notice a slight floral note, reminiscent of orange blossom water

It's smooth and juicy like, the way it coats my tongue is very enjoyable. The carbonation is frothy but restrained.

This is a very sessionable beer due to the addition of orange, the perfectly balanced hop level, the excellent mouthfeel, and the mild bitterness.

Will reccomend to anyone who wants to try out the IPA style and lives in the area for sure, very likely to buy again.

 

my favorite IPA from River Styx - this is one of the best out there - 6.5% and tastes really smooth - great beer overall - awesome out of the can and available around the state!
