Acclimated to 55°F and poured properly into a snifter.
Pours a dull (dull in saturation, not in pitch), very very dark brown, looks black unless up close, with a quickly dissipating 1.5 finger dark tan head
Initial aroma is roastiness and coconut, with alcohol coming after, a rich smell promising a rich body and taste. The second to fourth sniffs revealing sweetness and notes of chocolate. After agitating the alcohol intensifies, almost smelling of rubbing alcohol at first. I also smell malt reminding me of caramel, and I may have gotten a whiff of vanilla.
Initial taste before swallowing is alcohol and sweet caramel. When it goes down I get heavy caramel with a hint of chocolate, an alcohol burn that reminds me of vodka or gin, something clear hits the front of the tongue, it's not highly unpleasant but it's definitely there. I continue to notice the chocolate and alcohol burn more than anything else, and what's interesting is that when I sampled it at the brewery I could taste the cardamom and coconut clearly. Letting the aftertaste sit for an extended period I taste sweetness heavy in malt, and what seems like sugar, as well as maybe a hint of coconut. As I get further in I'm mostly tasting heavy sweetness with heavy chocolate notes and an alcohol burn, but a note of black licorice has appeared as well.
Mouthfeel is sticky and syrupy, very nice if you enjoy that. A luxurious ichor of sweetness which clings to the pallette after physically leaving it.
