Harvest is our autumn spiced doppelbock. Ginger snap cookies give way to toffee, raisins, and a warming character to get you through the cold autumn nights. This 9% abv lager will get you through the holiday season in one piece.

Has a thick head at first, but rapidly disappears. Very dark brown color with a lot of rising bubbles, visually resembling a glass of Coke. Light to medium bodied with a noticeable malt backbone featuring some toasted bread notes. However, there’s a harsh alcoholic taste that masks any other flavors this beer might have, so I get none of the darker fruity esters towards the finish that I’d like to see. 8.5% ABV - I think they could’ve toned it down a bit.

A: Pours a clear though opaque very dark cola brown approaching jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark chestnut brown + dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a handful of very small patches of very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of gingerbread spices (ginger + allspice + clove + nutmeg + cinnamon) over the top of moderate aromas of toasted + dark bread + caramel + toffee malts with a moderate amount of caramel + toffee + dark fruit (raisin + plum) sweetness. Hints of lager yeast and a touch of earthy + spicy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of toasted + dark bread + caramel + toffee malts with a moderate amount of caramel + toffee + dark fruit (raisin + plum) sweetness. That is followed by very light flavors of lager yeast. Next there are moderate to strong flavors of gingerbread spices (ginger + allspice + clove + nutmeg + cinnamon). Finally there is a very light flavor of earthy + spicy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades way fairly quickly leaving lingering gingerbread maltiness flavors.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Relatively clean finish.
O: Easy to drink considering the strength with well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable and does a great job of incorporating gingerbread spice flavors + aromas into the doppelbock style beer. Definitely glad that I grabbed one of these as it seemed to be a perfect evening beer in the holiday timeframe.
