Pint Nine Brewing Co. "Ninety Plus"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: A clear deep amber body rests gently beneath a short head of off-white foam that settles shortly into just a thin surface covering. That's a little bit of a problem for the style; it should have a large, persistent head that leaves some very nice lacing behind. Moving on, the aroma is malty and toasty but somewhat limited. It's clean, which is great, and very slightly fruity which is even better. There are no clear hops which is totally fine. On to the taste... the flavor follows the aroma. It's lightly sweetish, softly bready, lightly toasty, and lightly caramelish. Not unlike the aroma there is a suggestion of fruitiness there but that's totally fine as Vienna malt can often lend a fruitiness, and this is even as strong as that. There are also some underlying hop notes that are quite limited as well but help to bring it around in the finish. The bitterness is nicely balanced at around 20 IBUs and it finishes dry with some malt fading quickly. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp and smooth. I love the mouthfeel but it really should have a little more carb to it. Not unlike their Session Red I don't think this is going to get a whole lot of love in the ratings because it's not big and bright but that's not what the style is about. It's about drinkability, and this has it although it is a little on the softer side.
