1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - what, Susan no tag data love for me today? Aiiiiiiggght. Made with probiotic Greek yogurt to achieve the requisite sourness, it would seem.
This beer pours a hazy, very pale golden straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, chunky, and kind of fizzy off-white head, which leaves some random sudsy islet lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of estery lemon rind, gritty and grainy pale malt, subtle lacto notes, a bit of musty yeastiness, and a bit of plain earthy, well, let's just say hop bitters. The taste is bready and crackery pale malt, kind of subdued lemon peel citrus, ephemeral creamy essences, faint black and white pepper spice, and more tame earthy, weedy, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is barely registrable in its wan frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and smooth, or not smooth, it's hard to really tell or really give a shit about right now. It finishes off-dry, the lemon character, thinned-out yogurt, and malt all bringing their B-game.
Overall - this is a plain, and yet duly approachable version of this sub-style, with the lemon adjunct really doing the most damage/good here. The whole lacto thing gets more or less lost in the citrusy mire, which is a-ok with this fella, as the latter is always more agreeable, IMHO. A mildly amateur approach, but it works out in the end.
