Enjoyed this on a hot day in Kamakura Japan, just outside the Kamakura Train Station (look for the clocktower, it's literally across the street). It's not the most amazing example of the style but it was perfect for the moment and I'm already planning to stop by again if I find myself near by.

The bottle has a label showing the date 1996 as well as "Kanazawa Brewing Company founded 1875",so I'm not quite sure what the 1996 refers to, unless it is the year this particular brew was released. It also says " Tap your potential", so I was looking forward to tasting it.
The appearance was rather like a pale ale type beer and was quite attractive, and clear.
Not such a strong aroma but pleasant enough, with a slightly sweet edge to it.
On first tasting there was quite noticeable carbonation.
Letting the beer linger a while in the mouth helped to bring out a slight tartness but overall a mild tasting beer.
The head disappeared quite quickly but with no negative effect on the taste.
Overall a good tasting beer, quite light, but with enough character that made it slightly better than an ordinary brew.
I would certainly have this again.

This was a leftover entry bottle from the 2010 World Beer Cup in Chicago, was kept refrigerated the entire time since bringing it home (April 2010, reviewed August 2010)
Aroma: Some toasty malty notes, mild noble hop aroma, a slight hint of sourness.
Appearance: Orange-y/copper colour, poured with a large but non-lasting head, good clarity but not brilliantly clear.
Flavour: Medium body, some malt complexity, enough bitterness to balance but hopping is not as assertive as many altbiers. And then there's that sourness hinted in the aroma... Tartness doesn't completely obscure the other characteristics but it's quite noticeable nonetheless I assume this beer has suffered in the bottle somewhere along its journey :-(
Mouthfeel: Initial carbonation dissipated fairly quickly to medium-low,thin for this style
Drinkability: This beer did not hold up well in the bottle, and I don't think it's because of the almost four months it spent in my refrigerator. It was flawed but drinkable, I wouild have liked to have had a fresher bottle.
Note: The cap had a "best-by" date of 2010-03-28 (I say it's a "best-by" date rather than a bottling date because it would have been past the shipping deadline to get the beer to Chicago for the World Beer Cup... so the brewery did not enter its freshest example (unless it's a seasonal beer(?), in which case they might not have had a choice) for an international competition.)
