Poured from a pint can into a Nonic pint.
Pours pale gold and very hazy, nearly cloudy, with excellent head and lacing.
The aromas are somewhat more like a hoppier APA than a true IPA but quite inviting and strong. Lemon, lime, and orange peels. Pineapple and white pepper.
Sweet on the tip of the tongue with honey-kissed malt and plenty of citrus goodness. And then some pretty strong soapy flavors that seem more astringent than bitter take over the mid-palate and wash forward to the tip of the tongue with a burn. Ashy at the finish with a bit of earthiness and more booze than expected.
The brew's feel redeems a bit with plenty of acidity and bite that somehow lacks on the palate, if that makes sense.
A puzzling brew to be sure. It looks great. It smells inviting. It's very drinkable for the style. The flavors fall flat by comparison.

16 oz can poured into Goose Island nonic pint. An IPA with Citra, Simcoe, and Strata hops.
Pale straw yellow from the can forms into a deeper richer hazy golden glow with a tall creamy cap of 2 fingers, receding to 1/4 finger and leaving lace skirted around the glass attached to the body.
Aroma is wholly of fresh citrus peels, leaning more in the direction of lime and tangerine; with some pineapple, white pepper, lemonade, and melon rind. Some danker, more robust ashy aromas can be achieved from the can. Insane and I'm very impressed.
Flavor falls very flat in regards to the nose. There isn't much to speak of in terms of complexity. A weak malt presence opens this up, followed by carbonated water, lemon rind, white pepper, and very very slight pineapple. It's almost like drinking an IPA with a cold (which I don't have). Very weak.
Feel is acidic, with lots of biting carbonation and slight juiciness, with some resins doubling up on the finish. Some light alcohol heat as well, surprising at 5.5%.
Overall, for reference -- I have an open bottle of Lagunita's Hop Water just chilling at arms' length away, and it tastes like twice the beer this one is. That to me is unimaginable. The nose brought a lot of power and the palate was staunchly opposite of that. If you remember Minute Maid's Diet Lemonade, imagine that watered down and there you have it. This is a very weak beer overall.
Price paid : $3.99 / can
Would buy again : Nope
