This does not look like a Red Ale. It is nearly pitch black like a stout. Some light passes along the edge. Good, lasting head which leaves ample spots and streaks on the glass.
Watered down dark cocoa smell. No notable sugar.
The flavor matches the look. This seems to be mislabeled as a Red when it should be Porter. As a Red, the malt is darker and stronger. The body is thinner and the carbonation higher. As a Porter, the flavor profile is pretty good. Lots of semisweet chocolate. The aftertaste lingers like dark chocolate might. Overall, a very good beer, you just won’t get what you are expecting.
