Gloed - Barrel-aged wild ale with local cherries and blackcurrants.
Gloed refers to the bright red colour of this beer, which is the colour of blushing cheeks, the sunset, or hot coal in a campfire. Gloed is connected to joy and passion, all things that are beautiful and add glow to our lives.
Gloed is a fruity and mildly tart beer, light and sessionable, with predominantly blackcurrant in the nose. It was aged on oak barrels for 14 months, after which it spent another 5 months on the whole fruit. The finish is subtle with light notes of vanilla and spices. An elegant, sunny beer that deserves to be enjoyed at a quiet pace. The cherries and blackcurrants come from local organic growers and a nearby food forest.

Pours a a slightly cloudy, crimson to ruby red coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of doughy malt and red/dark berries, with notes of cherry and red/black currants, as well as some musty oak also coming through. Taste is a good balance of light doughy malt, distinct tart cherry and blackcurrant, as well as lighter estery fruit and spice notes of redcurrant, cranberry, clove and peppery spice, as well as some musty oak also coming through. Finishes rather dry, with a light tartness and some cherry and blackcurrant lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While this may not be quite as funky and acidic as you might expect from a Wild Ale, it does have a really nice fruity vibe to it, with some distinct and vibrant cherry and blackcurrant notes, as well as some quite noticeable musty oak character and hints of spice rounding things out here and making this a little bit more interesting. Overall, this makes for a nice, fruity and refreshing summer beer that may lack the funk a little, but makes up for that with some spicy and oaky accents, while having a great, easy drinkability to it.
