Notes:
Rich, decadent, smooth and just the right amount of vanilla, oak, and sweetness from the bourbon barrels where it rested for nearly a year.

From the backside of the label: "Bottled on: 10/14/2020"
Appearance: The body of the beer is black and it has a dark cocoa-colored head that is short and quickly fades out to a medium ring. No lacing.
Aroma: There is a mellow wood aroma mixed with a faded aroma of maple syrup. There is a hint of brown sugar and what smells like a light dusting of cocoa.
Taste: Up front there is a light malty flavor of burnt caramel. Towards the middle there is some burnt character and alcohol. Aftertaste feels pretty empty; there is a pleasant lingering char flavor but it is very mellow.
Mouthfeel: It's thin and boozy. There's a little bit of bitterness from the grain.
Overall: From the label in two locations, this is "BARREL-AGED" on "Bourbon oak casks" to which both assertions are proven in the aroma and flavor. It manages to check the boxes of both oaken barrel and bourbon. However, as a whole, the beer feels rather lackluster. The base beer for this stout feels mostly nonpresent as it gives way to mostly alcohol character. It's not a beer that I would readily recommend or drink again but it's the kind of beer that would do in a pinch. I probably wouldn't buy it again but I would be interested in trying it again a few years from now to see if the brewer has stayed the path or has improved.
