Was pleasantly surprised to see this on tap at belmont station today. Hello old friend.
The menu indicates this beer was aged in bourbon barrels thst once held dopplebock. You can absolutely get that on the palate.
The pours a fairly dark copper amber color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's noticeable light bourbon, brown sugar, light pine and hints of dry citrus. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this fairly sweet, bourbon infused dipa. However, that sweetness is nicely countered by moderate hoppy bitterness on the finish. It's more of a hoppy barleywine than a dipa, but whatever you want to call it, the beer is pretty delicious and easy to appreciate. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with the alcohol pretty well integrated into the flavor profile. You can definitely tell the abv. is up there a bit, but it's not over the top or obtrusive.
Not something I'd want to drink all the time, but undeniably delicious and a treat to see on tap again. Yummy stuff.
