T: Has a nice radian orange peel, with some stinging booze and caramel sweetness and a bready finish

10 oz. nonic at The Horsebrass on cask, this is about the chunkiest beer I've ever had, really pretty gross, after a few minutes I had over a finger's worth of trub at the bottom, from only 10 oz's beer! My buddies had gotten two earlier that didn't have nearly the sediment, but two of ours did, and they didn't look good. We'll go with 2.5 as the average of the 4, but my one glass was really a zero. Otherwise, murky gold with a small white skim.

Smell is soft, bubblegum, fruity esters and citrus hops. Good, but kind of sugary for a DIPA, and a bit too reserved. I didn't realize until reading johnmichaelsen's review that it was actually a wet hop, which explains the like of pungency to the hops.

Taste is very nice, more malty, earthy spice notes then a typical PNW DIPA, this is almost in the English style, super smooth with a great balance between the citrus/pine/herbal hop flavor. I also like how much hop flavor there is, in spite of the weaker aroma and only bitterness. Still, at the end of the day, I prefer a more robust DIPA. Assuming this is the same fresh hop Big Phat Homo the others had (the menu only said extra dry hopping), then it's had to have been aged since fall, which would of course soften the hops, but I can't say for sure. Bottom line is I'll be keeping my eye out for this one again...

Mouthfeel is smooth, with a lighter body. In spite of all the floaties, you can't really feel them...I still let my glass sit after a few first sips to settle just the same.

Visually gross (letting it settle into so much trub wasn't much better then the floaties), with an underwhelming nose for an extra dry-hopped DIPA, but a super smooth, balanced taste with no indication of the high ABV keeps the drinkability pretty high.

While I like the regular Homo Erectus just fine, the wet hop version (Big Phat Homo) is so much bettter, I wish they would switch the recipe and make it exclusively.

As NW DIPA's go, the HE has considerably more malt then most. This gives the beer a more substantial mouthfeel IMO, and your palate doesn't feel as if it's been paralyzed by the hop bite. Nevertheless, this is a big DIPA, with plenty of citrus in the nose and palate. This beer is very well balanced, but what I most appreciate about this beer is the added leafyness, earthiness and tobacco flavors the wet hop seems to inpart to this beer.

This is such an easy beer to drink I can easily see myself having two or three without thinking about it. Given the abv, that would not be a very good idea, but this beer really is remarkably drinkable. Another winner from the folks at Walking Man.

Had on tap at the hopfest in Seattle. Pours a hazy dark amber with a short head that leaves some rough lacing. Both malt and aggressive hops forward on the nose followed by lots of cereal grain on the finish. The taste starts with a very thick graininess and then on to quite bitter hops with lots of graoefruit peel flavor, pine, and spice. The mouthfeel is very rich and grainy/malty and finishes a little sour. An interesting beer, but I'dlike it more without so much graininess, which hurts its drinkability.

My favorite beer at the Portland International Beerfest. It was out pretty quick, so I think lots of people might agree.

Skipping flavor descriptions, I'll rather comment that this beer was extraordinarily balanced while still remaining true to style. Very crisp malt profile, low in caramel backed by a punchy cascade flavor and aroma.

The dry hops present a great deal of complexity in the aroma. Like their Homo Erectus, kicked up a couple notches. Bam!
