12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a good-sized, tan head of foam. It smelled of pine, resin, dark chocolate and toffee. Bitter, piney and dank tasting with roasted malt.

Tasted on tap at the brewery in downtown OKC.

Look: opaque black color with a thin light tan head. Some lacing.

Smell: not a powerful scent. Smells a bit hoppy, maybe even a little smoky? Truthfully I cannot make out what it is but it is delicious.

Taste: definitely the best part of this beer. Citrus and hops are present, but there is some dark malt bitterness and chocolate that really balance it out.

Feel: medium bodied with medium carbonation. I would not drink it on a hot day outside.

Overall: in the spirit of transparency, this is the first “black IPA” I have ever tasted, so I can not compare it to other black IPAs. However, if this is what they are like, I will definitely be trying more. Very happy with this beer, and $6 for a pint at the brewery is an amazingly low price for the quality.

On tap at Backporch in Lawton, OK.

Pretty dark, but there are ruby highlights. Creamy medium thick tan head.

Hoppy! Citrusy and a little dank.

Zippy grapefruit and zest then a chocolate note. There’s both hop bitterness and some dark malt bitterness and astringency. It’s balanced and Delicious.

Light-medium bodied and slick with good carbonation.

This is a very good black IPA. Good job Oklahoma.
