a fun take on a winter seasonal, and the only beer we had from a can instead of draft when we visited the brewery. its cool that they canned this, definitely one to pick up and take home for the holidays. its a deep copper colored brew with a short white head on it with fine retention and an awesome aroma of fresh pine, very much smells like when you first bring the christmas tree home, a bready malt backbone seems to support it well, its anything but one dimensional. i get a nice nutty grain element to it, maybe an english crystal of sorts, but a little peppery earthy thing too, maybe some rye malt in here as well, its bready and fuller, and i think just right for the spruce, which is oily and fresh cut to me in the flavor, gin botanicals, doughy yeast, clean finish. really hearty for its lower abv too which is a nice touch for a winter brew, a flash of sweetness in the middle but pretty dry by the end. really spruce forward but also very well balanced. maybe my favorite of the handful of beers we had in here, but i am a sucker for spruce beers. this was really good though, perfect for the holiday season!
