this is a tricky one, easily our groups least favorite of the beers we had in here at circa, but not a bad beer objectively speaking, just not as advertised. i cant feel good about adding this as lambic or wild ale, it just tastes like a wheat beer with cherries, which is not to say it isnt well made, just that it doesnt present itself as a kriek at all. its murky and just tinted a little by the fruit, not red or anything. smells only lightly tart, faintly lactic, maybe just from the fruit itself, no wood, wild yeast, or funkiness here at all to me, although i like all the earthy bready wheat and the sweetness of the fruit that comes through, just an entirely different style than it claims to be. in the flavor, its sweeter than its needs to be from the fruit, almost a candied cherry thing going on, not enough of the tartness i want in the style, and no funk or oak to it at all for my palate. maybe its just extremely young, but i cant talk myself into letting this pass as traditional kriek. i like the smoothness of the feel and the body, its well carbonated, hearty for winter, and the cherry flavor lingers nicely, none of it is bad. maybe a little filling and sugary to serve by the pint. better as a fruited wheat than as any lambic type, not even close...
