Continuing clearing out the cellar, I am trying a beer from the COVID-19 times and my first from Stonecloud. I am using a tulip glass and serving the beer at 48 degrees. The pour created a foamy, creamy, one-fingered, dark brown head with above-average retention. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is coal black with a reddish-brown hue, and the clarity is opaque. The appearance of the beer is average for this style. 4
Nosing the glass, I smell caramel, dark chocolate, medium-roasted coffee, bourbon, oak, char, raisins, and molasses. Smelling the glass again, I notice earthy dirt, tobacco, vanilla, bready, dark toasted bread crust, Maillard, anise, and malty sweetness. 4.25
The flavors start with bourbon, dark chocolate, raisins, caramel, toffee, oak, char, medium-roasted coffee, tobacco, and earthiness. Sipping the glass, I taste oak, anise, Maillard, soy sauce, malty sweetness, treacle, and malty sweetness.
The mouthfeel is smooth and thick, finishing warm. The body is medium-plus and has medium carbonation.
The high-ABV beer is displayed after sipping the beer. The whiskey barrel aging of the beer shows restraint. The base beer is a wonderful stout that has lots of flavor and balance. Long-term commitment surprises me; it is delightful when sipping it on this warm night in December.

Jet black with a dense tan froth. Looks great!
Aroma full of graham cracker, ripened dark fruits, syrup and a little pine.
Syrupy sweet across the tongue with hints of dark chocolate, cherry, black grape and burnt sugar. Get some woody notes and alcohol throughout the finish and ends with a bit of herb and spice.
Medium to heavy in body and heat's up what you got cookin' right quick...partner.
Glad I got a lasso around this lil' doggie when I had the chance.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with 3 fingers of caramel colored head. nice lacing, sub-par head retention
S: Dark fruit, peatyness, lovely Whiskey notes as this warms
T: Plenty of barrel dryess, peatyness, faint chocolate notes up front, a little boozeyness up front. Vanilla & caramel work through the peat & barrel dryness as this warms, plus dark chocolate & figs. Finishes dry, with nice peaty Whiskey notes, some fig & vanilla, just a kiss of toasted coconut as well
MF: Chewy, subtle carbonation underneath all that heft, super warming
Much to love here, this drinks pretty for the heft & flavor profile
