Look - black and thick with a slight head but fantastic rimming and lacing
Smell - so much barrel with some maple toffee
Taste - a ton of barrel with toffee caramel maple vanilla possible dark fruit, pretty sweet
Feel - medium full body and syrup with no real carb
Overall - wish it was thicker

Thanks to Redhawkpoke for this one, my Mystery Beer from NBS #12. Only clue was that it was 14% ABV. Seems to be in a 16oz bottle, that was heavily waxed. Very heavily waxed. Poured into 14oz teku. Poured a solid black color with over ½ inch of tan head that had good retention and no lacing.
There was plenty of booze in the aroma, without even bringing the glass to my nose. A big hit as I popped the cap (under all that ridiculous wax), and even more as I poured. On closer sniffing, underneath the booze was some caramel, vanilla, and wood. The base beer was fairly well covered up.
Similar on the tongue, with some fruit (maybe cherry?) and some definite alcohol heat.
If this is a Stout, the body is just on the thin side. If an ImpPorter, just about right. It was smooth, except for the alcohol heat, and had a semi-sweet finish.
Drinkability was good, although certainly a sipper, not a quaffer.
Overall, a solid and enjoyable brew. Worth trying if you see it.
