barrel aged russian imperial stout, they must have another brew system than the tiny table top one i saw at the new theater location in order to fill a real sized barrel, unless they had a miniature one from somewhere, itty bitty setup in here was all i laid eyes on. this was the better of their two beers i had, although it was a low bar against their lackluster saison. this is rich and chocolate forward, roasty but not burnt or bitter, and with some nice oak depth to it without being all about the wood, good balance, smoothness, complexity, and execution overall, which gives me needed hope for the future of the beer here. deep hersheys brown to this with a short but dense tan head, aroma of black coffee, raisin, and dark grain, a little barrel char too perhaps adding complexity. the flavor is similar but add in some rather warm alcohol character that permeates the tongue, some mid palate sweetness of molasses and dates, and finally a little late whiskey, as much oak as spirit here, some corn sugar, vanilla, and milk chocolate dessert vibes as it comes up in temperature. not epic or anything, but plenty serviceable if you feel like a strong and sturdy dark one. i hope for more like this than like their saison next time i return...
