Stopped by Johnny's Off License bottle shop in Rome. Impressed by their selections of local IPAs sand APAs. Is Italy suddenly the land of Hoppy beers? I picked up 2 IPAs, of which Pig IPA, brewed by Birrifico Castilli Romani, was one of them.
Poured out of the bottle it produced a large foam head. "Do they all produce so much foam?" I asked, considering that the previous local IPA and APA I'd had had the same characteristic. The color was a very hazy dirty beige straw with visible carbonation.
Hard to detect aroma at first. There was a slight pale malt sweetness and citrus juice. These aromas opened up a little later.
The taste comprised of a gentle pine hops feel with light citrus, mainly grapefruit and orange. Overall the palate is dry as is the finish. Faint malt backbone although it is hops forward overall albeit lightly and not aggressive. Smooth, crisp and light, it drinks like a session IPA.
A nice uncomplicated and very drinkable IPA. It was tasty. I liked it.
