This crisp, fruity, sour begins with a bold hit of peaches and citrus, followed by subtle smokiness and a hint of toffee.

On-tap at Vässen Brewing Company, Richmond, VA
A: The beer is very hazy dark orange in color. It poured with a half finger high off white head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass after it died down.
S: Moderate aromas of blood oranges are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of blood oranges with notes of sourness and hints of smoke.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer is very unique and refreshing. I really liked how it combined the blood oranges with the smoke and sourness.

This is a weird one. I went with wild ale as the brewery describes it as a sour. It is tart and fruity but isn’t too sour. The smoky note is subtle and intertwined with the beer as a whole.
Body is quite hazy, a quick look might have you thinking slushy, but a little attention will erase that though. Decent initial head for acsout, medium stacked bubbles that end in a thinnish collar.
Nose actually has a shared base of fruit and wood, upon which a light smoked note comes out. I think the wood is an impression brought on by the smoke. The slightly sour peach note comes on eventually.
Taste hits up front with a tartness that evolves into a peach and melon flavor. Not puckering, more like the tartness of a SweetTart. Smokiness comes as it hits the back of the throat. The smoke plays in more early, and gets pushed further back, nearer the late/aftertaste. This mix of smoke and peach works in most sips, but is a tad strange in others. Overall, I tend to lik it, either way.
