Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark walnut brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a half finger khaki head with great retention and slippery lacing. Aroma of dark toasted saison malt, cocoa, cola. Flavor is dark, lightly toasted malt, farmhouse yeast, coffee, licorice and a bitter finish with some woodiness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Not sure what this is. The clearest character is like a schwarzbier, with dark toasted malt and coffee notes, but the yeast leans more towards a farmhouse/saison mode. Not getting much Belgian yeast frutiness. The initial taste is interesting like a cross between a dark saison and a shwarzbier, but the finish is a bit stark and bitter. The Belgian golden I had earlier in the week had a similar farmhouse leaning yeast, but this is a darker, toastier beer. Satisfactory as a off-beat beer leaning Belgian mostly because of the saison yeast. The finish got better as I drank the can, but this is a bit uneven. Looks nice.

Called a BSDA, looks and tastes like an American Porter.
