City Built Brewing Company

Everything from the Japanese Rice Lager to the Dark Czech Lager was super tasty. The music was very varied in the best way. We didn’t have food, but I am guessing that it would be good as well. The exposed brick, long wood picnic tables and decorative lighting all contributed to the community building/ Oktoberfest atmosphere here. This is a great place to enjoy a beer.

 

 

Love the history and vibe of the place. Drafts we had were all great. Keep up the good work!

 

Lots of positives to note at this place.

Cool old school/new school restored industrial building, lots of exposed brick inside and out.
Great location, along the river...lots of open space across the street and ample outdoor seating to take it all in.
Quality, varied and interesting array of beers on tap and in cans to go.
Interesting and different food options...latin and Puerto Rican, inspired and themed chow, including a bunch of tasty tacos.
Quality spot...well worth a visit if in the GR, Michigan area

Friendly, welcoming little spot with a chic industrial vibe. Plenty of outdoor and patio seating, too, and I believe you are able to take a pint along with you for a stroll of the park/waterfront area.

I enjoyed the beers, and the bites.

I stopped in at City Built while traveling in Grand Rapids a couple of weeks ago. When I was there, they had 13 beers on tap, including a Czech lager, several IPAs, stouts, a sour, a coconut porter ... a good mix. One of the IPAs is a double rice IPA, which I didn't even know was a thing, but saw a few times when I was in Michigan. Overall the quality of the beers was quite good, with the DDH IPA brewed for the Pink Boots society the standout for me.

Nice, airy, modern taproom with wood accents and a welcoming feel. Staff are quite nice and attentive. Brewhouse in view of the taproom, with beautiful horizontal lagering tanks. They have a kitchen with a few menu items, mostly tacos and pub snacks. I ordered the beer cheese, which was pretty good.

 

 

We stopped here to have lunch and to try their beers. The brewery is located in an old industrial-like building that has gone thru rehabbing. The interior finishes are bare brick walls with open ceiling joists above. The brewing equipment is to the rear of the pub and visible thru a glass wall. A long bar is to one side but no seating there due to COVID distancing. A large parking lot at the rear of this multi-tenant building was full, but a metered city lot is across the street as well as metered curbside spaces. (Curb parking in front of the building is blocked for outdoor seating.) We really liked the vibe here.

We chose to sit inside and were seated by a hostess and told to order our food and beer selections at the bar. The bartender brought the beer to the table, and a member of the kitchen staff delivered our food. There were 12 beers available (6 of them are sold in a can only) so we ordered 6 sampler-sized glasses from the tap so that we could try to get an overall evaluation of their beers. (Also available were two ciders, two wines, a mead, and a seltzer that is after-flavored with 8 different choices.) The beers were all brewed VERY well to style, and we enjoyed them all.

The brewery has a premium series of stouts that are boiled 3, 5, 8 or 13 hours which is a very unique process which likely concentrates the malt flavors. If the tasting result of our 3-hour version continues to be repeated (or improved) by the others, they all likely are exceptional beers. The 3-hour stout (10.5% abv) is the best non-flavored stout that I've ever experienced. (The other stouts receive various flavorings during the brewing process.)

The short food menu carries a Puerto Rican theme to it, and we thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. I'd like to visit here more often so that I could learn more about this cuisine, and enjoy more of their beers. This place is highly recommended!

 

 

Always a favourite stop of mine when I visit Grand Rapids. Fantastic and delicious Puerto Rican inspired food with delicious beers and usually a very unique one or two beers on the menu. The staff is super friendly and welcoming; do yourself a favour and stop in here!!

 

 

 

 

Looking for a place to watch the World Cup final on a warm Sunday morning, and discovered this beauty. Had a good view, a great brunch and greater beer. Lovely setting, combination of high tops, booths, and community tables. Our waitress offered superb service despite being very busy and setting up for a large incoming group. Can't wait to go back!

 

The food and beer is excellent. Also, a great location across from Canal Street Park and the Grand River. My only quibble is that the lower abv selection could be deeper.

City Built has great food, great service, great beer. Love their taco selection! They have a unique selection of beers and Puerto Rican food! Definitely, a must stop if you're doing brewery visits in Grand Rapids! The owner and staff are always great to talk beer with!

I crave this food constantly! My husband really likes their beer and the Mead selection usually has something I enjoy. The servers work together as a team and the managers are attentive. My glass was empty and I didn’t really intend to have another but a manager gave me a sample because he couldn’t let me sit with an empty glass while I finished up.. purely great service and amazing food. I recommend City Built every time someone asks where they should enjoy a meal or drink out.

While they have only been around a short time, they have come a long way! There is a solid selection of beers, and they are continually improving. The food is absolutely amazing, and I eat here once a week with my family. In a crowded beer scene City Built really stands out.
