a reasonable if basic pale ale, kind of lost to me somewhere between crisp and malty, its neither and both at the same time, i taste the grain, pale barley and a little crystal malt too i reckon, but simple and fresh as heck, clean for not being that dry, i think the low alcohol in utah helps with that, even if its a little higher now than it used to be (utah beer in general on draft, not this one in particular). there really isnt enough here to make this memorable or even really stand out, but it drinks easy enough, especially with a spicy chicken sandwich from local legend pretty bird in my other hand, a great combination. the hops stand above the grain, but never really turn this bitter, and while i think the balance is excellent, i also think its a bit of a compromise, and to quote marx commenting on a wishy washy economist, its like this beer assumes all cows are grey, preferring harmony to contrast or worse yet conflict, the hops and malt cancel each other out rather than compliment and enhance, and that makes this a one and done for me, even if its well made objectively speaking. i like these guys, but this one seems safe to a fault...

A surprising medium dark amber with medium carbonation
Smell is a pleasant light chocolatey toasted malt, hops barely detectable
Taste: ok so I got mad at dog fish head for calling their 60 minute an IPA when it's an amber, same situation here but I'm not mad bc this is very smooth (sorry I hate that word too), well rounded and light, malt comes across the same as it did on the nose and a little bit more hops sneaks up on you.
Overall a very friendly and delicious session

Pours a dark orange/amber color, looking a bit like an amber ale. Certainly on the darker side for a pale ale. Has a very toasted, slightly sweet malty flavor to it, with a grassy hop bite to round it out. Body is not as thin as would be expected for the ABV, and it certainly has a good amount of flavor. I just find it to be a little bit too acidic on the tongue in the after-taste. Good beer, certainly a unique pale ale option compared to what I've had around here.

Poured from 12oz can into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: medium-dark orange hue with a bit of murk and a thin layer of ivory foam. It's a bit dark for a pale ale, but still not bad.
Smell: grassy hops with a little bit of an herbal character above a very slightly malty base. A well-made, if unremarkable, pale ale.
Taste: a bit sweeter and maltier than I was expecting, but still not bad. There's a bit of nuttiness to the malt, with more of those green, grassy, slightly herbal hops. Bitterness is lowish but still relatively balanced.
Mouthfeel: medium-body with a decent carbonation and creaminess, especially given the ABV.
Overall: this beer is highly refreshing; say what you want about these low-ABV Utah beers, but they're definitely good options to quaff in the sun.
