had this on cask at the bayou, fairly certain its the same beer, even though i believe their menu simply presented it as a dark mild, without the name, if they make more than one of these, somebody let me know, but i suspect this is it. cool to have it in this format, always seems so right on for the style to me, and this is a nice example of it, sort of a light brown ale as it goes, nice malt depth and structure, still very easy drinking, and this one leaves just a bit of sweetness to sort of extend the experience, appropriate for winter for sure. light to medium brown with reddish edges and a low glow despite a touch of cloudiness, high creamy cask head in the khaki range, looks really well conditioned. the nose is dry cocoa, toasted chestnut and hazelnut, lots of cool nutty nuance from the grain, dark toast but not into the roasted barley range, english ale yeast for sure, raisin and fig and leather, earthy and slightly rich for its low abv, deep and pleasant. the flavor follows, appreciate the complexity in the malt, chocolate forward, molasses and maple, baked character with the yeast too, soft to almost creamy feeling start to finish from the cask, very well done there. toasty and warm and kind of cozy with some body, very light hops, but great overall balance and drinkability, a fine and quite classic example of the style, dont mind the sweetness here. hearty, good with a range of food, and unexpected from roha, didnt know they did cask stuff, this is a treat.
