Pours a very dark brown where no light passes through the edge of the (plastic) glass. No head and no lace.
The first impression of the smell is medicine, like cough syrup and minty mouthwash (Listerine ?). Lots of licorice as well.
The initial taste mimics the smell but soon the Porter flavors of semisweet chocolate kick in. Think semisweet chocolate Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie. The mint reminds me of Rumplemint Peppermint Schnapps. With more chocolate, this would be balanced novelty beer. The body is rich and the carbonation is low. Overall, this is an unusual Porter. I categorized it as a Baltic Porter because of the 10+% abv, but the strong mintiness makes this more like a dark chocolate Peppermint Patty.
