On draft at the brewery
Black in color, cream colored head. Aroma of dark chocolate, espresso a little dark fruits. Similar taste, a touch sweet. Fuller bodied.

From the bottom of the can: "CANNED ON 12/07/21"
Appearance: It has a black body with a medium-large and very dense khaki head. The head took a bit of an aggressive pour to get a decent head but once it was in the glass it stood well with good retention. There are short sheets of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: There are notes of cocoa and wet, burned wood that come through at first. It smells a bit like a wet campfire after burning out, mixed with some chocolate notes. There is also a slightly doughy scent to the beer which is very soft but just noticeable.
Taste: Up front there is chocolate which comes across a bit like a tootsie roll and a bit like a chocolate bar; somewhere in-between but altogether pleasant. There is also a woody character that comes through up front which mingles in with the chocolate and is also pleasant. There are hints of mint and pine in the center of the palate. Towards the back of the palate there are notes of smoke and char. The transition between each of these flavor bands in the spectrum are very well done.
Mouthfeel: It is full bodied and smooth with a light but noticeable charred bitterness. Carbonation feels fine. It has a decent presence on the palate.
Overall: The label states that this is a "BREAKFAST STOUT" and that it is "CONDITIONED ON FRESH-ROASTED CALLANDS COFFEE AND ENGLISH TOFFEE, DARK CHOCOLATE, SOFT BROWN SUGAR..." This is an excellent tasting beer but it would be nowhere near what I would consider a Breakfast Stout. First of all the coffee character is completely absent. The advertised toffee and brown sugar are also non-present. The chocolate character is very well done and the woody character that supports it with notes of pine, smoke, and char are very pleasant. I would drink this again, but I wouldn't recommend it to those looking for a Breakfast Stout. I would recommend it to those looking for a Chocolate Stout that trends on the bitter, earthier, and smokier flavors. This would be the perfect beer to drink in the Summer while camping, but it's not a breakfast stout.
