Chocolate Stout

A: Bought at an expat grocery store in Shanghai China. Poured from the 330mL bottle into a pint glass. The beer is an almost totally opaque dark brown with just the tiniest bit of light coming in through the edges. Head was a perfect foamy two fingers, tan, with a few minutes of retention.

S: Milk chocolate right up front, but digging deeper we can get some roasted coffee and even some toffee. This is going to be a big ol' malt bomb.

T: Bittersweet chocolate, just as advertised. But then the finish reveals layers of complexity that separate this one from the rest of the pack. A really nice coffee profile of espresso and roasted malt. Then a different kind of sweetness near the end, burned sugar and caramel.

F: Smooth.

Overall, this is a great, flavorful offering here in Shanghai. I will definitely come back to this one.
