Picked a 500ml bottle ( bottle dated 11/25/19) during Beer Safari in Milwaukee @ Feb 2020. Label notes 31 months of aging in a single red wine barrel.
Cellared by me for roughly another year and served with a winter meal (Beef Carbonade and a melange of butternut squash; leaks and cranberries). Turned out to be a stellar match.
Deep russet red/brown with little head. Much more wine like in appearance.
Nose and taste were very good. Wood, leather, tannin, Brett, dark fruit, some dark molasses like bitter sweetness, nice tartness.
Soft but still sparkling in body. Perhaps a bit of oxidation. But overall very pleasant and a great complement to the meal.
Highly impressed when trying the stouts, IPAs and Goses while visiting at 1840. This barrel aged BdG also displays some real craftwork going on at 1840.
