Poured from a 16 oz can bought at Trader Joe's in Tallahassee, FL.

Very pale, washed out straw color with fluffy but fleeting white head. Light aromas of herbal hops with slight citrus and a tiny cooked note in the background I have seen in other rice lagers. Gentle flavors with some light noble-type hops and a hint of sweet malt. A twang in the background that I associate with rice. Light, crisp body with light to medium carbonation. Neutral bitterness and no alcohol burn.
This is a light, drinkable lager with no flaws.

Notes via stream of consciousness: My second beer on Xmas morning is a Japanese style lager with Sorachi Ace hops at 4.5% ABV. It's crystal clear and very light in color, just a pale straw gold. Its bright white head rose up fairly full at pouring but died down almost as quickly. In the nose it's clean and fresh, lightly sweetish, and softly citrusy. It's enticing, so on to the flavor we go. It's light in flavor and character, but not lacking in character. The malt is mild and lightly sweet, and there's a delicate fruitiness to it. The famous Sorachi Hops are also restrained, as they should be, but offer some citrus and an almost cedar-like woodiness. It's crisp and bright, and light across the palate with a medium-light body but also a fairly crisp carbonation. The label lists it as having 22 IBUs and I totally believe that. It's nicely balanced leaving it sweetish upfront but dry in the finish with some woodiness lingering. The only thing I have to add to this is that the label reads "CRAFTED WITH RICE TO REDUCE GLUTEN". Most basic lagers are already low in gluten so I'd imagine that this could probably be listed as gluten free if they had it tested. I'm not sure on that, and I don't know who really cares, but there's definitely not a lot of gluten to it. I love this beer! It's quite charming, really well made, perfectly balanced, and incredibly easy to drink but also satisfying.

16 oz can from Trader Joe's in Florida.

This has a pale straw colored body and a white head. The body lacks clarity while the head lacks retention.

The smell and taste are familiar from time spent in Japan. Grassy and herbal hop notes dominate the finish and aftertaste while wheat and rice notes appear earlier on.

The beer is a pale goldenrod and somewhat transluscent. The grain comes across well on the nose a bready and a hint of sake. Also on the nose is the grassy herbalness of the hops. Taste wise, the grains lead to a sembei rice cracker taste well balanced with the hops. The hops are reminiscent of lemongrass with a grassy start and lemony finish. The beer is dry and loose. It is refreshing but not interesting in the body. Overall, it is a well balanced lager.
