On tap at tasting room:
Not quite fully black, but pretty close. Head covers the pour, with a light tan color and half sheets of lacing. Nose is heavy on the coffee, coming as a dark roast when combined with the stout notes, which combine to broaden the impact of both aromas.
I was expecting a sweeter stout, just because that seems to be the way things go these days. I was smacked with roasted bitterness, which was amplified due to my expectations. High cacao percentage, unsweetened dark chocolate flows out of a first flavor of black coffee with a sprinkle of sugar. There’s an almost metallic nature to the bitterness near the finish and I think it’s more noticeable due to the fairly thin, dry feel of the beer.
The beer improved as it warmed, with the bitterness showing up later and not quite as strongly. Overall, though it’s just a little out of balance and I think if just a bit more body could be added with just a small amount of added sweetness, this would come together for me better.

514/22 On tap at Short Story Brewing on Rivesville, WV. Day trip of fun on a Saturday that I should be working at home.....
Very rich coffee on the nose! Full bodied like the Brewer notes... Maple flavoring gives the sweetness to this. Leah doesn't love this one because the flavor turns saline.... Whatever that means.
Very smooth mouthfeel. Dave likes the one because it's different and good

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
