Pours a ruby-tinted dark chestnut brown with a short-lived, thin mocha head. No lacing, but it does maintain a thin creamy crown.
Gentian root, fig, cola, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and coconut show on the nose. The cinnamon is very strong.
Similarly spicy tasting with a strong cinnamon component and strong pepper heat. There’s more cola, some slight chocolate and even slighter vanilla notes. I wouldn’t pick up the gin if I didn’t know it was in there, but there is a slight hint of juniper.
On the light side of medium bodied and slightly slick feeling. Moderate carbonation.
This is very spicy with much more bite than most peppered stouts I’ve tried. The smokiness of the anchos is definitely hidden by the cayenne heat and cinnamon.
