Here' to Baron Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben, one of the fathers of the Continental Army. He literally wrote the book on order and discipline for the American Army. Called the 'Blue Book', it was the first drill manual used by the U.S. Military. A veteran of the Prussian Military, he trained the Continental Army from a disorganized ill-disciplined collection of men to rival even the best European professional armies of the time. His contributions to the American Military and its organization has left a lasting legacy of excellence and professionalism in today's armed forces.

16oz can. No dating information found. Painted label on the can.
Slightly cloudy, medium amber colored body. One thin finger of white head with the pour completely disappears, leaving behind a thin head and a couple of tiny islands.
Aroma of caramel barley grain malts.
Taste is toasted caramel malts and accompanying spicy hops. Flavors are malty and fruity. Aftertaste is in the general caramel apple realm.
Medium mouthfeel. Clean finish. Low bitterness. Good carbonation.
Too fruit sweet for style, lacking caramel maltiness density, missing a crisp finish. Would be a slog to do session work with this beer.

From the can, it pours a light hazy amber color with a modest off-white head that soon reduces to nothing. Sigh. In the nose, a light scent of malt with a touch of caramel. The mouth gets the same, malt with some caramel.

Deep amber colored body; extremely lively carbonation; very fizzy head, initially large but quickly fades to a thin, soap bubble appearance that only partially covers the top of the beer. Very faint caramel note; not much else. Thin, watery taste, primarily diluted caramel and trace of hop bitterness; very faint, almost a raspberry sweetness. Medium body; some smoothness to the mouthfeel, but with the carbonation, also coarse and bubbly.
As much as I want to like the beers from 13 Stripes, I have yet to find one that isn't weak and over-carbonated (but not in a gushing way). This beer is no different. The carbonation acts like a soda while the beer can't hold any lasting head. The taste is so watered down as to leave you hard pressed to really identify the intended style. I have one more from them in another style, so we'll see how that goes.
