2021 Vintage, aged in Sotol Barrels
Poured from a 16 oz can into a Triple C Brewing Snifter.
Pours a dark brown with mahogany highlights. A fairly aggressive pour yields a thin, dense dark khaki head, that recedes quickly, leaving behind no lacing.
There is a lot going on here, as soon as I poured the beer my wife could smell it from across the room. Dominant aromas of cinnamon, hot peppers, chocolate, and just a hint of the Sotol barrel.
The flavor is huge! The base beer is almost eclipsed by the cinnamon and heat from the cayenne & ancho peppers. Once you get past the cinnamon and heat, there are some lesser notes of chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla, and a slight grassiness. I really don’t know what the Sotol barrels add to the beer as I have never tried Sotol, and don’t know what it tastes like.
Thick and viscous, very lightly carbonated, and slightly slick on the tongue.
Overall, the beer is good once you get past the nearly overwhelming cinnamon character. I think the heat from the peppers is done very well and compliments the sweetness from the lactose.
