Picked this up at the Food Lion in Lovingston, Virginia last month as I never had this before. Enjoyed the label and the other offerings that I've had from them but this one left a little bit to be desired when all was said and done.
Of course, it poured dark as it was capped off with a ton of mocha head that bubbled up out of my glass, but never overflowed. Once that settled, the lacing left behind was extensive but very spotty as it was more like a sheen than anything else. Faint nose, as there were hints of chocolate, toffee, and maple syrup with the taste also feeling a bit understated and underwhelming. Some oatmeal was underneath all of this but the body was a bit weak and watery with the aftertaste having a touch of dryness to it.
There was a bit of carbonation to boot and the alcohol was understated but overall, this felt like like a basic Stout than it's listed style on here. No date was to be found anywhere as a bit of roasted and dark fruit undertones left me wanting another - but only to see if it was better the second time around...

There is text on the can that says "KEEP COLD, DRINK FRESH" however I don't see anything indicating a date on the can or label.
Appearance: It has a black body with a very large head that is a light shade of tan and has somewhat small bubbles. The head has good retention; it does slowly fade but it is barely noticeable. The head leaves nice wisps of cobweb-like lacing on the glass. It's a very nice looking beer.
Aroma: A light scent of coffee and burnt pine hits the nose and then immediately fades. It has a bit of wintergreen aroma which lingers.
Taste: Up front there is a chocolate flavor which comes across as hard candy rather than cocoa or just regular chocolate. The middle of the mouth has a bunch of wintergreen mint flavor. Towards the back of the palate there is a bit of coffee and more wintergreen. It's a bit of a weird tasting beer but it isn't bad.
Mouthfeel: It has a medium-light body that is easy to drink. It has a bit of a thin body but it feels within what is reasonable for the style of an Oatmeal Stout.
Overall: There is text on the back of the label that state: "Notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel and maple syrup complement this roast toasty smooth Oatmeal Stout." It doesn't taste like caramel or maple syrup at all but oddly it has a lot of wintergreen aroma and flavor. It's a bit of a weird beer but it's drinkable. I don't believe it meets the brewer's expectations based on the label note, and it doesn't really live up to the namesake of "Brunch Stout." Still it's an alright beer but it's not one I would buy again or recommend. There are far too many breakfast stouts on the market that do a much better job.
