Served on tap at the brewery in a goblet.
Look: Deep brown, no head, but a thin foam ring leaving a small amount of finely-bubbled lacing.
Nose: Bourbon and dark roast, a little chocolate, and cooked brown sugar.
Attack: Bourbon dominant, and some sweetness I’m having trouble placing that rather overwhelming the underlying the taste of the roast.
Finish: Just the right amount of bitterness from the roast to balance the sweetness in the attack.
Mouthfeel: Medium thick, adequate carbonation.
Overall: We visit this brewery about annually on vacation on our way to or from the Wyoming mountains, and it’s been fun to enjoy its evolution. This is is the first bourbon-related brew we’ve had here, and it’s a respectable offering. I’m enjoying it, and would order it here again. The only suggestion I’d make to the brewer would be to adjust things so the fullness of the dark roast comes through.
