A year in fresh Heaven Hill barrels brought oak tannins, char, whiskey, and caramel to this old-fashioned stout. We used malt sugars exclusively - no lactose! - to achieve a drier, more austere beer that pairs well with contemplative evenings, past and present.

Crowler pour, brownish black, no head. Let's start with the texture because that is the most fascinating aspect of this one, velvet smooth, drinks lighter for 11.5 abv but very boozy without being overly hot, a combination that makes this sneaky drinkable but you want to sip it simultaneously. Smell is bourbon flavoring and caramel. Yup that's it, and not just boozy, just lots of bourbon. Taste is again very bourbon forward, caramel, baker's chocolate, and light oak contrast slightly, but it is basically bourbon in a stout.
