Yields a dark brown to fiery ember colored beer with a huge, stable mohagony colored head atop.

Smells of dried plums, bakers chocolate and smoky, toffee accompanied malts.

Offers a pleasantly effervescent mouthfeel, perfectly highlighting the light body of the beer.

Tastes of toasty malts, together with bakers chocolate and dried red berries among a well pronounced yet subtle hop dryness. The beer turns even drier then with garden herbs cutting through in a pleasantly bitter fashion while getting balanced by honey enriched malts. Finishes even heavier on leaves and herbs with a rustic prominent maltiness, as well as an uncompromising, noble hoppiness which showcases an utmost appealing balance, leading to a long and crisp aftertaste.

This is a fantastic Alt. It is utmost dry for a Lager, exactly what I am looking for in an Alt, together with a complex, yet well defined malt backbone. This subtle, yet extremely well working balance just showcases the Altbier style perfectly well.

5/17/24 - (Can - Home) (Chicago, IL) - Can Notes: Purchased from Beer on the Wall 5/1/24 for $3.41 at store temperature, refrigerated upon returning home until opening. 16 oz canned on 4/22/24, can stamp visit our taproom. 5.1% ABV, Alt-Style Amber Ale. Hops Tettnang. World Beer Cup 2023 Silver Award, German-Style Altbier. Brewed and canned by Roaring Table Brewing, Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Appearance: First pour about a third of the can into a small near Stange like small lager glass. Dark Caramel bronze crystal clear base, light carbonation tapers quickly, generous tan egg white creamy head leaves soapy lacing and a creamy cover above the base. 4.25

Aroma: Caramel, raisins, fresh warm baked roll. Mild in strength, enticing. 3.75

Taste: Consistent with the aroma, Heavy malt forward sticky fruit bread, caramel, raisins, grapes. Stronger than the aroma, 4.0

Mouthfeel: Medium body, negligible carbonation. Drinks easier than the ABV, sweet malt flavors win out consistent with style. Caramel root beer finish. 4.25

Overall: This is a solid offering. I've only had a few Altbiers, and malty beers are not in my wheelhouse, but this is consistent with my knowledge of the style after reading the style notes, and is a pleasurable malty beer experience for me. Glad I picked this up, would pick up a four pack down the road in cooler weather. Well done Roaring Table! 4.0

Canned on 03-07-2023. Poured into a short Becher.

L -- Clear, dark, cola color with ruby highlights. Sudsy, quick-settling, off-white head.

S -- Light spicy hops, touch of dark fruits and clay-like, earthy maltiness.

T -- Herbal hops and tart, dark fruit flavor up front. Folds into a light earthy malt character. Finishes spicy bitter and tart fruitiness. The aftertaste has some of the earthy malts, but bitter herbal hops dominate.

F -- Mouthfeel is crisp to dry -- maybe a touch of light syrupiness, with a light-medium body.

O -- This is a well-made, good tasting beer, but it doesn't have the right balance of maltiness to the bitter and herbal hops -- as well as the tart fruitiness -- to-style. I wonder if it would have benefited from a longer lagering time? Nonetheless, it's a really good drinker.

Deep reddish tone, nice clarity in the light. Aroma is nutty and malt-forward, grape nuts cereal. Flavor is similarly nutty and malty, lightly sweet with a light bitterness in the finish that lingers. Long aftertaste. Honey graham cracker on the exhale. Medium bodied with a slight bite to it. Overall it’s a pretty flavorful example of the style, one i’d drink again.

Canned 3/7/23

a: pours very dark garnet in color. 2 finger frothy light tan head which takes its time receding to a modest layer covering the entire surface. light lacing.
s: dark caramel, floral, some fruitiness (dark cherry, red grapes)
t: caramel, fruity. slightly herbal. some light spiciness from the hops
m: moderate (prickly) carbonation. a bit creamy
o: Not a style I'm all that familiar with but it's a decent enough beer in its own right.

Canned 3/7/23; drank 3/11/23 @ Hannah & Kenser's.

Mostly opaque brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big tan head; frothy lace.

Cream, caramel & faint smoke notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Acorn, cream & mild sarsaparilla flavors.

Robust but drinkable; worth a quaff!

Had on tap. Ruby brown body with a beige ring and lacing. Crusty bread with toasted caramel malt lead the nose, with earthy hop bitters faintly behind. Taste is much the same, but all packed so early in the sip, leaving simply toast to carry the rest of the way. Body is malty yet thin, hops affect the ending but in a disorganize way for the style. Wanted to like this more than I did

Served in a Phase Three snifter from a crowler filled at the brewpub.

Easy hour: 9am. Ahem. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear russet-garnet topped by a finger of glowing off-white foam. The nose comprises caramel, pine sap, flowers, and a touch of biscuit. The taste brings in more of the same, a rather pleasing balance established between the malty and hoppy aspects, though the focus is clearly on the malts. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a liquid feel. Overall, a rather nice and tasty alt, a balanced and drinkable beer I hope sticks around for a while.
