Reviewed on 12.11.21 to BJCP guidelines for Czech Dark Lager.

I've never been a huge fan of the ZümBier portfolio -- great German name, but not a lot of German styles. Roaring Table, OTOH, makes some great German and Eastern Euro styles; including a terrific Czech "Pilsener." Poured into my tall Becher.

L -- Deep, dark black with ruby highlights when held directly to a light. Sudsy, light tan head that crashes pretty quickly and doesn't revive well.

S -- Roasted malts and herbal hops. Mild dark fruit notes and an earthy DMS.

T -- Big roasted malt hit up front. Somewhat charred and astringent, but not offensive. Light herbal hops and tart dark fruit in the middle through the finish. Herbal hops command the aftertaste with roasted malts asserting for recognition.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light-medium body.

O -- Very drinkable, if not quite as complex as I had expected. Very similar, if a bit lighter in body and flavor, to German Schwarzbier -- as it should be.

Dry, moderate roast, toasted dark bread crusts, unsweetened dark chocolate, mild coffee, crisp and clean, creamy smooth feel. Zero licorice. Easy drinking and a very pleasant beer in general. Drank 3 and gifted one, didn't last long enough. Make more next time, please and thank you.

Pours a very dark brown (practically black) with a creamy mocha brown head, the latter eventually receding to a razor thin thickness. Aroma comes through with black licorice & anise, . Flavors of dark roasted malts & anise. Medium body. Low carbonation. Very flavorful beer. A lager well suited for a cold, winter evening.

Released 11/23/21; drank 11/28/21 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small tan head; strong lace.

Sarsaparilla, mild caramel & faint black licorice notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Sarsaparilla, cream, mild black licorice & faint caramel flavors.

A unique treat; easy to drink but full of flavors. Bold and tasty.
