Had on tap. Dark reddish brown body, full tan head. This is a weird mishmash, that frankly I'm not enjoying too much. Grain and roast malt, dark chocolate and lemon zest, mild hop bitters with vanilla, "just weird" (said in best Gordon Ramsey voice). Nose is a bland mix of it all, with a coffee tone winning out. Feel is roasted and grainy before malts take control, but thinner. Huh

L: Dark brown pour, small khaki head leaves behind some spotty lacing.
S: Nose gets some chocolate, grains and some roasted malts.
T: Some dark fruit, mild coffee notes.
F: Medium bodied.
O: Never saw a half-dark Czech lager before, not bad, but not a keeper.

RT is calling this a Polotmavy (Czech Amber Lager, or Half-Dark Beer), which is supposed to be akin to a Vienna Amber. However, I think they used a little too much roasted malt in the grain bill to-style since this isn't supposed to be a roasty beer. I've done my best to rate with an eye to both style, quality, and drinkability.

Tall can poured into a short, wide mug. Canned on 11.30.23, reviewed on 12.29.23.

L -- Deep, dark chestnut color with ruby highlights against a light. Light tan head that settles slowly.

S -- Fresh DMS, light, tart dark cherry notes and roasted malt with a light, burnt grain note.

T -- Roasted malts with that light burnt grain note right up front. Herbal/earthy hops, tart dark cherry, and light cocoa in the finish and aftertaste. There's an underlying light herbal bitterness throughout too.

F -- Mouthfeel is slick to lightly syrupy with a light-medium body.

O -- This beer is off-the-mark for the style being represented, but it's still a well-made and delicious beer. Since RT's Vienna was so good at it's last release, I'm hoping some tweaks will be made to this recipe for its next spot in the rotation. It's a great Czech Dark in the meantime.

Canned 11/30/23; drank 12/19/23 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.

Medium roast coffee bean & mild chocolate notes.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Medium roast coffee bean, cream & mild pine notes on the finish.

This is supposedly a midpoint between a Czech Lager and a Czech Dark Lager, but it leans way heavier dark to me. Good.
