Pour's an effervescent hazel color with a thumb of cream colored head. Below average head retention and lacing

S: Smokiness a hint of brown bread
Campfire and Pit Ham, lovely

T: Smokey with dryness and some woody hops up front. Caramel mixes in dryness and smokiness as this beer warms up, the smoke seems to be Beechwood to me. Finishes dry, meaty smokey with Caramel sweetness. and woody hops

MF; Medium body slight carbonation. Carbonation level stays consistent throughout. Sweetness and smokiness balance very well

Lovely Rauschbier, nice drinkabilty

Had on tap. Mostly opaque amber brown body with a light brown sudsy head, tons of blobs lacing. Smell starts with that wonderful campfire smoke, with crusty bread, sweet caramel malt, toffee, and a touch of earthy hops. Taste blew me away, incredible contrast with the sweeter malt and full powerful smoke, plus big accompanying notes of earth, crusty bread, spicy earth, and less char flakes, toffee and hops. The balance is breathtaking, granted I have yet to go to bamberg so I can't compare to that on tap... yet. Feel is the only part that I want more smoke and rugged textures, because this is malt and smooth with the yeast coming through almost as much as the smoke, easy drinking though

16 ounce can poured into a wide, stout mug. Canned 12-21-23.

L -- Clear, deep amber-copper with a slow-settling, sticky, off-white head.

S -- Wood smoke up front, lightest of caramel malts back.

T -- Woody smokiness up front -- a touch phenolic, but pulling up short of distraction. Sweetish, bready malts with a touch of caramel mid-palate. Finish and aftertaste return to smoky phenols balanced by herbal hops.

F -- Mouthfeel is soft to slick with a light-medium body.

O -- This rendition is what I remember of fresh Rauchbier in Bamberg -- smooth and fresh with enough smoke to tell you this isn't run-of-the-mill beer, but mellow and malty enough to entice another half liter, or three. Outstanding offering.

Canned 12/21/23; drank 1/8/24 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque brown/orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge, noisy tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.

Campfire smoke & mild bacon notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Smoked ham & caramel flavors.

Very smoky, and pretty damn sweet...getting close to being too much for me.

Ultimately enjoyable but one is probably more than enough.
