Orange, melon, peach, mango and white grape. Honey malt. A bit under carbed. Nicely balanced, not too sweet or bitter. Soft. Not bad. Beats an overly raw hopped IPA any day.

Holy crap, a new brewery from Amesbury, MA makes a single-hop series and their very first entry is the notoriously-difficult and specifically-focused Nelson Sauvin? This is pretty advanced stuff... honestly, most smaller breweries start this kind of series with, say, Citra, Simcoe or Centennial hops. Nelson is a weird and complex hop that usually plays well with others better than it does by itself (and even with others, it can be a dud unless the right malt bill is used and the right yeast is present... this hop is specific and annoying to use, in other words), but why not? 2017 is apparently the year of no rules, so let's close it out with a bang, shall we?

This one pours an almost-opaque medium-amber hue with a generous dollop of white foam on top. The head seems to be fairly consistent and laces in clearly-defined tiers. Excellent surface retention here, as well, with solid legs and an even more solid color to the body. This is one of those cases where it's hard to tell if it's just really hazy or if there really is no carbonation activity... I'm just going to assume there are bubbles rising here but I can't see them. Yeah... let's go with that.

Nose is very, very heavy on guava and lychee with some notes of passion fruit in the back. Knowing this is Nelson-hopped biases me a bit, honestly, but I'll say this has some strong "white wine" notes of tropical fruit along with hints of bright citrus and dank pine and fresh-cut grass. Overall, though, it's super tropical and bright. My first experience with this brewery seems to be off to a great start.

On the tongue, this is mouth-watering with its complex combination of perfectly-balanced malts and flavorful, bright, tropical hops. Superb flavors of lychee, mango and gooseberry with a distinct crackery malt backbone pop out upon my first few sips. Slight pine and dank notes appear in the finish here and there. There's a nice crispness to this which marries the lightly "white wine"-esque elements of Nelson with a juicy and effervescent carbonation, resulting in a drinkable and successful IPA that exalts the hop varietal utilized. I find this very well-made and will continue to seek out new BareWolf beers. This being my first experience from them, I can certainly count myself as a fan for the time being! Great stuff.

16 oz. can dated 11/29/17

Pours hazy foggy gold with a creamy white foam head. Smells like super dank and crisp fresh white grape, gooseberry, peppery spice, lemongrass, kiwi, apricot, peach, mango, orange citrus, lemon, grapefruit, some bready caramelized malt, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like huge fresh white grapes, gooseberry, kiwi, lemongrass, apricot, peach, mango, orange citrus, lemon, grapefruit, some bready caramelized malt, peppery spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy and slick with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a real nice Nelson hopped IPA.
